Today, I belatedly completed the Avatar challenge for week 1!
As I mentioned in my previous (and first) blog post, the challenge was to use objects from around my home to create a custom avatar of myself. The objects must tell a story or mean something to me. My object choices included: My Laptop – it’s only three years old and a bit worse for ware, but it gets used a lot! I do a good bit of gaming on here with Steam, as well as using it for GameMaker Studio 2 work and all my Netflix viewing.
Steam controller – Although, I’ve barely used it and bought it in a Steam sale, it’s on here to show my love of PC gaming. I think I must have close to 750 games in digital format, although I’ve not played them all.
Tabletop and boardgames – I’ve selected a few of my current favourites, which includes Warhammer 40,000, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms and Here’s Negan/The Walking Dead: All Out War. The latter three use both co-op and solo rules and have some interesting A.I. mechanics
Hatchet – Over the last year I’ve got into Bush Crafting and outdoor camping and love to do it when I get time.
Books – A collection of my favourite books, notebook and current reading:
Jurassic Park: I love Jurassic Park books and am still waiting for some video game that does them justice
Bill Hicks: Agent of Evolution - one of my all-time favourite comedians
Think like a Dog – We’ve recently just added a Staffy puppy to the family, probably should have read the book first!
Notebook – I’m always using notebooks to write down ideas, timetables, to-do lists and last-minute lesson plans! I can’t do without one of these.
The Drowned Earth Miniatures Game Rulebook – Not only a very good game, but one I helped to do a lot of play testing on after it’s successful Kickstarter. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to do this, as it has given me a good insight into what it's like being an independent tabletop developer.
Although, there are plenty more objects that could be added, I feel these choices currently reflects my life at the moment*. *If I still had them, I'd definately included my Amstrad CPC, Sega Megadrive, Panasonic 3DO and Heroquest boardgame!
