Week 2: Challenge Activity! (part 2)

Having looked at some creative processes and techniques and chosen the original Alien poster as the artefact to remediate, for the first time in a while I’m now about to great creative…

According to Geoff Petty, the creative process consists of six working phases that need to be recognised, so that you can adopt the appropriate mindset for each.

The working phases are; inspiration, clarification, distillation, perspiration, evaluation and incubation or ‘icedip’ for short.

Here, I believe I can briefly describe and show these phases in action for this challenge:

Inspiration – in this phase, I have researched some different creative techniques to make my choice on how I would modify my chosen artefact.

Clarification – here, I have used a mind map to aid my thought process to both choose my artefact and how I would remediate it.

Distillation – studying a variety of original Alien poster designs and then reading through the script to develop my ideas.

Perspiration – Using the original artwork, script cut ups and scenes from the movies I matched the elements together to create a composition that I was happy with.

Evaluation – Looking at the composition, I have continued to make changes and develop texture and colour to emphasise the combined elements.

Incubation – A few days after completing the design, I've thought about any improvements that could be made and have made the tag line adjustment.

Overall, I've really enjoyed this challenge. I've found it a useful activity to get my head into a creative mindset again after some absence of artistic creativity and to also open up some different creative processes to try myself further on the course and also share with my students.
