Week 8: Rapid Ideation 2 part 2

Week 8 began the same way week 7 finished, very hectically - alongside working on the Rapid Ideation project and developing the graphics we would have to look at the importance of audience and user research, consider the ethical implications and also determine the risk of said research.

I began my week starting afresh with the main player sprite graphics and searching for 8-way movement templates to work from. I managed to find a selection and worked from the one which would most suit the style myself and Mikolaj were going for.

As mentioned before, I swapped the graphics style from pixel to vector and whilst this would save a lot of time later on, I found the little nuances and quirks

* that Inkscape has somewhat frustrating to work with - despite using it for other projects previously.

*This could also be down to my knowledge of the program or lack of also*

The main problem I had was making sure everything lined up correctly and despite using a grid and the snap to grid tools there were some discrepancies that would give Mikolaj some issues later when making the tileset and spritesheets in Unity.

However, the positives from the switch over to vector graphics more than made up for this in my opinion. These positives included a much easier workflow when animating all of the different direction, as I was able to "layer up" the individual parts a group them when necessary, as well as copy across different tiles and details with minimum fuss to create additional graphic variations.

Because of this, I was able to produce a lot more graphical assets than I initially thought I would in the time frame - although it was disappointing not to get a title screen and end screen finished - I managed to finish all of the needed in-game assets to what I consider a good standard.

Once Mikolaj helped me understand more clearly how Github desktop worked, I was able to upload all of the assets to the project and the Mikolaj worked his magic and the final result looked great! The finished project was finally added to itch.io (https://wil1333.itch.io/) and presented at the weekly webinar with other finished projects.

We got some nice feedback from the webinar when we presented it to the group, which was great to see (and hear!).
